An unusual path for SheLLf by the designer Ka-lai Chan. Created as a limited edition design object, it was then transformed into a standard product, thanks to the designers ideas and Kristalia’s technology.
This path will be more clearly presented at Salone Internazionale del Mobile, where Ka-Lai will show the limited edition collection of 10 pieces for the small bookcase and 50 for the medium-size bookcase.
Born in 1985, Ka-Lai Chan is a young Dutch designer who studied at the Utrecht School of the Arts.
Founded in 1994, today Kristalia offers objects that stand out for their minimalist appeal, intended to meet the current everyday living requirements of younger consumers.
SheLLf, the name of this designer product, is a linguistic and conceptual combination of ‘shell’ and ‘shelf’.
The designer’s initial idea took shape when observing people and seeing that everyone actually wants to wear a mask in order to make themselves invisible to those before them; a real mask of perfection. Just like SheLLf, a festival of contrasts: with its natural appeal on the inside that expresses all the special features of oak and its smooth and shiny external surfaces, just like a mirror. This contemporary bookcase therefore contains this type of mask that creates a sensation of movement, as it captures the eye with its dynamic visual effect.
Ka-Lai speaks about how her first meeting with Kristalia happened by chance, via the social media. The young artist, who knows how to use communication tools in the best possible way to promote her work, met a company that has always focused on using new means of communication.
The products by Ka-Lai will be on show at the Kristalia stand at Salone Internazionale del Mobile from 17 to 22 April.
